Meg tells the proposal story!
“Ditmars Orchard is a special place for Derek and I because it is the last place we went on a date before he proposed to me. It was also one of my favorite dates. Derek proposed to me on November 5, 2016. I was told we were having a friends and family bonfire to celebrate Derek getting through his 90 day probation period at the post office and to just to have a good time. Before having dinner, Derek told me he had a project to show me in the shed and to just come take a quick look. He is always tinkering with something so I didn’t think much of it. In the shed he pulled out a little pumpkin that I had got the day before at ditmars. It was hydrodipped (same thing he does with his deer skulls) with paint and a bunch of different colors. It was beautiful and I was happy with the personal gift. I was told later the pumpkin was his sneaky way of grabbing the ring. But back to the story. He said I have one more thing to show you but you have to plug it in. I went and plugged in this random extension cord and “Marry Me” with a heart lit up the dark shed. I probably gave him a mini panic attack. I stared at the sign for a good few seconds to let it sink in ( plus I had a little difficulty reading it at first-I was at an awkward angle) but when I turned around, he was on one knee and asked me to be his best friend for life. Of course I said, “yes”!
